Cooking Tips That Do Not Go Out Of Style

By Dorsey T. Emanus

There is always something new in cooking that you can learn, even if it's just a nice family meal you want to prepare. With the right tools and information, anyone has the power to transform a bland, tired dish into a delectable offering. If you combine these tips, you'll be able to create all kinds of new flavors in your cooking.

When cooking, be creative. You do not have to follow a recipe to the "T". Adapt recipes to your tastes by adding or removing an ingredient, or even creating something from scratch. The ability to think creatively shows the heart of a real cook.

Rubbing stainless steel on your hands before you wash them can get rid of odors such as onions, fish and other strong ingredients. You can use any stainless steel item: spoon, sink, or specially made "soap bar." Rubbing them on stainless steel will remove the odor and keep your hands smelling fresh.

Here is a simple tip to make preparing those healthy dark leafy greens easier. The stems are tough and need to be removed. The easy way to do this is to laterally fold up the leaf at the midpoint, then use the leverage to break the stem off in the middle. Alternatively, you can utilize a knife to remove the stem from the folded leaf. Open the leaf back up and you have no more stems!

Before engaging in cooking, be sure to prepare everything ahead of time. This way, you can prevent distractions like hot oil in pans or other distractions. You can also save on gas and heat by not turning on appliances before you are ready.

If you make sauce, freeze it into ice cubs to use later on. You will then have it readily available for when you need to make a quick and easy meal. All that needs to be done is to warm it up in a pan. This process doesn't cause the sauce to go bad, so reheat with confidence!

Consider drying your very own tomatoes. Cut Romas tomatoes in lengthwise halves, or slice ripe regular tomatoes into half inch slices for drying. Put them on a rack with the cut side up and add sufficient salt. The next step is to put the rack on an old cookie sheet and then place in an oven set at 190 degrees for at least 10 hours. Keep the tomatoes fresh by storing them in freezer bags. Dried tomatoes could also be put in a jar with fresh herbs and topped up with olive oil. Place this in the refrigerator and be sure to use it within 2 weeks.

When cooking with fruits and vegetables that you have never used before, gather as much knowledge about them beforehand as you can. With a bit of homework, you will learn a lot of new things to do with a new kind of food. Teaching yourself prior to beginning any kitchen task will get you more fun out of your experience.

Mixing up what spices or sauces you use in a dish can make your cooking seem exciting and new again. Tastes can be drastically altered by simply adding some new spices or using other sauces for marinating. You can easily find exotic spices and sauces at your local ethnic store.

Use these tips when you make your next meal. You'll soon be convinced that cooking can be great once you taste the wonderful meals you create. You may find that you enjoy cooking and begin experimenting even further. You can try cooking now!
